Dear Readers,

As Haïtiennes in the Diaspora we need to begin to document our lives.  We need publications that address our unique and specific interests and issues. For a long time I have observed new stands and Haitian homes and wonder why there aren’t publications that speak to Haïtienne, and address their cultural issues and conflicts they face, while celebrating their accomplishments. Too often many people see Haitienne images that don’t highlight the best Haitienne have to offer.

Haïtiennes in North America on a daily basis overcome and sometimes succumb to the challenges of straddling the cultures of two vastly different countries.  Wherever we find our Haïtienne women congregated we find this challenges rose in conversations.

The aspiration of this unique publication is to highlights the interests, accomplishments, and lifestyle of the Haitienne in North America, Haiti, and around the world. It will be a fierce supporter of the needs and rights of Haitian women as they try to succeed in their new homeland.  This publication will speak to Haitienne in North America, and back home about Beauty, Fashion, Lifestyle and Culture, while maintaining their heritage as they undertake that quest, to redefine Haitienne and to shed new light to who they are. At the core of this publication will be  culture and the tug of war that is  taking  place between the traditional and the modern Haïtienne as they charts their destiny and that of generations to come.

We also decided that proceeds from this magazine will help funds projects in Haiti to eradicate illiteracy, malnutrition and deforestation.

We decided to launch “Haïtienne” to take these conversations public; to draw from the experiences of Haitienne in North America, and Haiti to share their own stories of success and failure; to share their beauty and complexity; to unabashedly discuss issues that will jostle their very cores while at the same time, acknowledging the importance of our heritage.  We hope that Haïtiennes magazine website will become your best friend as she is mine and that you will log in everywhere you go and introduce it to the world.
